    Read NEA's first Inclusion and Diversity Coordinator, Anna Clutterbuck-Cook's guest post on SAA's blog, Off the Record. In Anna article, “Who’s Missing From This Table?” she discusses the background of inclusion and diversity at NEA and outlines four overarching goals for her tenure as she develop this position.

    Off the Record is an informal communication channel on which conversations can take place about ongoing SAA activities and issues, as well other topics of broad interest to archivists. We want to both highlight such topics and spark discussion.

    On Thursday, March 19th, volunteer to work with fellow MARAC and NEA members on materials from the Boston Pictorial Archive at the Boston Public Library. (http://www.bpl.org/distinction/featured-collections/boston-artists/). The Day of Service event, in conjunction with the Spring 2015 Meeting, is a chance for archivists to help our colleagues improve access to important archival collections at their repositories. And it's a chance to get together and meet new people.

    Volunteers will work on-site at the BPL to convert addresses into geo-coordinates using Google maps. The resulting efforts will locate historical images of Boston on a map tool in digitalcommonnwealth.org, the statewide repository system for digital collections across the Commonwealth. Digital Commonwealth is also a service hub of the Digital Public Library of America.

    Training will be provided to volunteers at the start of each shift, and no prior experience with geo-coordinates is needed.

    Shifts are first come, first serve, and space is limited so sign up early to guarantee a spot*.  The deadline is Friday, March 6th, but as soon as all spots are filled, the sign-up sheet will close. Once someone signs-up for a shift, the project organizers will email potential volunteers to confirm participation and share further logistical details.

    Help make a difference for a historic Boston repository!

    *You do not have to attend the Spring 2015 Meeting in order to participate in this event. All MARAC and NEA members are welcome to sign up.

    The Education Committee has two openings for student members. It is an exciting time to be a member of the Education Committee -- we are growing our program to be able to offer diverse and cutting edge workshops throughout New England. If you are interested in getting more involved with NEA, meeting other archivists and creating professional development opportunities, this is an ideal position for you! Some travel is necessary but expenses are reimbursed.  It’s a great way to build your resume.

    Duties may include:
       -- Assisting education committee members with developing workshops;
       -- Serving as “day of” representatives for workshops;
       -- Liaising with students to survey education needs and interests;
       -- Participating in any committee conference calls and/or meetings.

    This is a one year position and students must be a member of NEA.  If interested, please send a brief (300 words or less) statement of interest and resume to Stephanie Call, co-chair, at stephanie.call@ajhsboston.org by February 13th.
