On Thursday, March 19th, volunteer to work with fellow MARAC and NEA members on materials from the Boston Pictorial Archive at the Boston Public Library. ( The Day of Service event, in conjunction with the Spring 2015 Meeting, is a chance for archivists to help our colleagues improve access to important archival collections at their repositories. And it's a chance to get together and meet new people.

Volunteers will work on-site at the BPL to convert addresses into geo-coordinates using Google maps. The resulting efforts will locate historical images of Boston on a map tool in, the statewide repository system for digital collections across the Commonwealth. Digital Commonwealth is also a service hub of the Digital Public Library of America.

Training will be provided to volunteers at the start of each shift, and no prior experience with geo-coordinates is needed.

Shifts are first come, first serve, and space is limited so sign up early to guarantee a spot*.  The deadline is Friday, March 6th, but as soon as all spots are filled, the sign-up sheet will close. Once someone signs-up for a shift, the project organizers will email potential volunteers to confirm participation and share further logistical details.

Help make a difference for a historic Boston repository!

*You do not have to attend the Spring 2015 Meeting in order to participate in this event. All MARAC and NEA members are welcome to sign up.
