NEA taking the past into the future

honoraria & Travel reimbursement policy

Throughout the year NEA offers a variety of educational offerings from the Spring and Fall meetings to workshops and webinars. As a token of appreciation NEA provides honoraria and travel reimbursements to plenary speakers and workshop/webinar instructors.

NEA will offer a plenary speaker up to $750 as an honoraria and up to $250 to defray travel costs, not including meals. Workshop instructors are offered $500 as an honoraria for a full day workshop and $250 as honoraria for a half day workshop, and up to $250 to defray travel costs, not including meals. Webinar instructors are offered $125 as an honoraria. All travel receipts must be submitted to the Program Committee Chair or Treasurer promptly after the meeting or workshop for the reimbursement.

Projected amounts requested for honoraria and travel reimbursements are submitted as part of the meeting or annual budgets which are approved by executive board vote.

    • For a Spring meeting, the Program Committee can choose to have one plenary speaker per day, and offer each speaker honoraria (up to $750) and travel reimbursement (up to $250), the total costs of which cannot exceed $2,000 per meeting, or $1,000 for each plenary speaker.
    • For a Fall meeting, the program committee can choose to have one or more plenary speakers who may share the honoraria (up to $750) and travel reimbursement (up to $250), the total costs of which cannot exceed $1,000.
  • Should the nature of the meeting or the desired complement of speakers differ from the policy guidelines outlined above, exceptions may be made with approval of the Board at the time the meeting budget is approved.
