    Hello, NEA and MARAC members!

The NEA Membership Committee and the MARAC Membership Development Committee would like to invite new NEA and MARAC members, new(ish) members, prospective members, and any NEA or MARAC member seeking to become more involved, to attend the "Call to Action," an informal event taking place on Friday, March 20 from 8:00 to 9:00 AM in the Georgian/Arlington room at the MARAC/NEA Spring 2015 meeting.

The Call to Action will take the format of a job-fair, where members of both organizations can walk around the room and meet with representatives of different NEA and MARAC Committees and Roundtables, to learn about how to become more involved, participate in events, and stay in-the-know about NEA and MARAC and its affiliated roundtables and committees. Whether you are new to your professional organization or a seasoned NEA or MARAC veteran, the Call to Action will be a great opportunity to share your ideas with NEA and MARAC representatives and become aware of opportunities to contribute to the NEA and MARAC communities.

If you can’t make it to MARAC/NEA but have any membership questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact us at casey_davis@wgbh.org (NEA) and grover@etown.edu (MARAC).

We look forward to meeting you!

    NEA Membership Committee

Dan McCormack, Nicole Topich, and Pat Webber

    MARAC Membership Development Committee

She has also worked as an archivist at the District of Columbia Public Library, American University Washington College of Law, and SUNY Stony Brook. Bell is a past Chair of MARAC and a past president of the Society of American Archivists.

And she is speaking Friday March 20th about the Education of an Archivist at the Spring 2015 MARAC/NEA Joint Meeting.

    A REMINDER
We've had an overwhelming, positive response to this year's meeting, which is breaking attendance records. Because this is a joint meeting and we have a very popular program, we encourage you to prioritize which sessions you would like to attend. If there is a session you really want to attend, we recommend you get your seat early.

If a session becomes crowded, find a member of the Program Committee or visit the registration desk for recommendations on alternate sessions to attend. Please note that session rooms will not have Wi-Fi, though this will be available in the hotel lobby. Should you want a break, the Local Arrangements Committee is also putting together a list of local attractions and recommended places to get food/coffee.

See you in Boston, March 19-21!

The 2015-2020 Strategic Plan Task Force (SPTF) was recently formed to write a new strategic plan for NEA. The SPTF is made up of both new and seasoned NEA members and board members. When complete, the new strategic plan will guide NEA through the next five years.

The SPTF spent the last few months drafting a vision and mission statement, and a series of core values for NEA. This is the first step in the strategic planning process. We plan to bring the vision, mission, and value statements to the Annual Business Meeting for a vote in the spring. We’d like to hear your thoughts before we bring it for a vote.

Please take a few minutes to fill out the following three-question survey on the updated mission, vision, and value statement. Everyone's thoughts and suggestions will be taken into consideration. Your feedback is an important part of shaping the final version of each statement.

The survey will be open until March 6th.

Questions? Direct them to Caitlin Birch (caitlin.birch@dartmouth.edu) and Jill Snyder (jillannsnyder@gmail.com)

To the members of NEA -

At the 2015 annual business meeting, NEA members will be asked to vote on three proposed amendments to the NEA bylaws.  In general, the amendments proposed in 2015 are procedural in nature.  They replace outdated language in regards to how NEA communicates amendments to our bylaws and how elections are conducted.  With the methods of communication and voting now in use by NEA, the proposed changes seem warranted.

Click to view the proposed amendments, which, per NEA bylaws Article 9, were submitted to the NEA Secretary on January 20, 2015.

Current NEA bylaws can be found on the website here: http://newenglandarchivists.org/bylaws

Looking for a ride to the Spring 2015 MARAC/NEA Joint Meeting, or willing to share a spot in your car in exchange for fine company (and/or gas money)? We've created an online, self-service carpooling sign-up sheet where you can connect with other members looking to share a ride.

Just enter your name and contact info, when and from where you're traveling, and whether you're a driver (with a car) or a rider. Then, wait to be contacted by other carpoolers, or go ahead and contact others who list pick-up locations and dates in line with your travel plans.

**Please note: NEA is not responsible for the contents of these spreadsheets or for any actions that result from using these spreadsheets. Members are entirely responsible for making their own arrangements, including meeting times, sharing the cost of gas, etc., and for following through with their plans.**
