NEA taking the past into the future

Help drive the future of NEA

2015-03-13 12:16 PM | Michelle Romero

During the Spring 2015 MARAC/NEA Joint Meeting next week, there will be two planning meetings that all NEA members are welcome to attend. In this email we have information about the BUSINESS MEETING where we will ask members to vote on bylaw amendments and strategic plan updates. We also invite all NEA members to be attend the EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING and join our discussions about upcoming events and organizational planning.

NEA BUSINESS MEETING
Saturday, March 21

Time: 8:30 - 9:30 a.m.
Location: The Boston Park Plaza Hotel, Plaza Ballroom
50 Park Plaza at Arlington Street
Boston, MA 02116-3912

Click to view the agenda, but below you will find information on two items that we will be asking for your vote on:

BYLAWS
NEA members will be asked to vote on three proposed amendments to the NEA bylaws.  In general, the amendments proposed in 2015 are procedural in nature.  They replace outdated language in regards to how NEA communicates amendments to our bylaws and how elections are conducted.  With the methods of communication and voting now in use by NEA, the proposed changes seem warranted.

Click to view the proposed amendments, which, per NEA bylaws Article 9, were submitted to the NEA Secretary 60 days and the membership 30 day prior to the annual meeting.

The current NEA bylaws can be found on the website.

STRATEGIC PLAN
The 2015-2020 Strategic Plan Task Force (SPTF) was formed to write the plan that will guide the direction of NEA’s work over the next few years. From February 23 through March 6, the SPTF asked NEA members to provide comments on draft vision, mission, and value statements for the organization. The SPTF heard you and revised the statements, based on your feedback.  The SPTF is happy to supply the comment matrix if you are curious about what edits were made and why. Email Caitlin Birch, co-chair of the SPTF for more information at Caitlin.Birch@dartmouth.edu.

NEA members will be asked to take a vote of confidence on the statements, at the Business Meeting. The NEA bylaws don’t require a formal vote on these statements, but the vote of confidence, if passed, will confirm that the 2015-2020 Strategic Plan is headed in the right direction, and propel the Task Force into its next objective: Identifying goals, strategies, and action items to help NEA achieve our mission and work towards our vision.

Click to view the proposed vision, mission, and value statements as they will be presented at the Business Meeting.
