Join us Saturday, April 2nd at the New England Archivists Spring 2016 Meeting to hear Wes Cowan, star of PBS's Antique Roadshow and History Detectives, speak on lessons he learned as a collector, researcher, and advocate to archives and archivists across the country.

After becoming a regular on the popular PBS Antiques Roadshow nearly two decades ago, Wes Cowan had his star turn when he became one of the History Detectives, a show that spawned a new genre of television that brought history and archives into our everyday lives. As a history detective, Cowan has consulted archives around the country while piecing together long-forgotten stories, and by doing so introduced the significance of historical records to the general public in an entertaining and captivating way.

The New England Archivists Spring 2016 Meeting Program Committee had a long list of random and unusual traits needed for a good plenary speaker. Fortunately, Caleb Neelon checked off all the boxes... in spray paint. Graffiti artist and historian? Check. Owns a French bulldog named Ferdinand? Check. Designed a pair of Chuck Taylor sneakers for Converse? Check. Taught us that Jordan Knight from New Kids on the Block used to do graffiti under the name 'Popeye'? Check. Neelon’s experience in documenting movements in which the most authoritative sources lay in personal or public spaces, not institutional ones, is a fitting complement to our meeting’s emphasis on innovation and breaks with tradition.
