Managing Student Employees

Instructors: Camila Zorilla Tessler and Monika Lehman, BEinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University
 Wednesday, April 30, 2025, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Often an archivists’ first foray into supervision is hiring and supervising undergraduate and graduate students as student employees. In the instructors’ experience, there’s often little to no training in how to manage student employees. This workshop will provide guidance for anyone new to supervising students and navigating the unique challenges they can present to managers. Instructors will review the full cycle of hiring – from tips on job postings, interviews, orientation, work expectations, and letting students work on their own and feel empowered when they are stuck. This training will benefit anyone who currently supervises students or who may need to hire or supervise students in the future. It will include both instruction as well as ample time for discussion about student employment issues and instructor-led community feedback.

Please note that this webinar will not be recorded, so please plan to attended live.
