This half-day symposium will focus on innovative implementations of technology and archival theory in a variety of institutions. The goal of this meeting is to provide attendees with practical advice to strategize for and successfully implement similar projects in their own institutions.

The Magna Carta is in Boston this summer!  One of only four original 1215 copies is on display right now at the Museum of Fine Arts in the exhibit, “Magna Carta: Cornerstone of Liberty."

On Saturday, August 23, join your New England Archivists and Special Libraries Association New England colleagues to visit this historic document considered to be the foundation of democracy, modern law, human rights, and influence the constitutions of many nations.

We will meet at the Huntington Avenue entrance to the museum.

NB: If you are paying with a membership or library pass -- purchase your tickets at Huntington Avenue entrance and wait there. If you are joining us for the $20 group rate -- meet at the Group Entrance (located on Museum Road on the left side of the museum on Museum Road) and we will proceed to the Huntington Avenue entrance to meet up with the rest of the group.

COST
Regular museum entrance is $25.
If enough people register, we will be eligible for the group rate ($20 per person).
Everyone is responsible for their own museum admission fee.

If you are in the Greater Boston area, your library may offer free or discounted museum passes (with a valid library card).

AFTER THE EXHIBIT

NEA and SLA-New England have both generously donated money towards the purchase of appetizers for a post-museum social (location TBD). All other food and drink will be pay-on-your-own.

New England Archivists (NEA) announces an exciting new professional development award. An anonymous donor was inspired to fund this new award after experiencing the dedication and enthusiasm of the Spring 2014 Meeting, held in Portsmouth, NH, in March. The Audio/Visual (A/V) Professional Development Award, a disbursement of up to $500, will be given annually for the next three years by NEA to promote increased advancement, education, and participation within this specialized area of the archives field.  For more information, please see our press release.

The NEA Board will be meeting on Friday, June 27, 2014 starting at 10:00 am at the JFK Library and Museum in Boston. Board meetings are open to the membership.

NEA is pleased to welcome Maryalice Perrin-Mohr as the new listserv coordinator and Elizabeth Slomba as the new membership secretary.

New England Archivists (NEA) is proud to announce our professional collaboration with Yale University Library to establish the Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies, a new scholarly publication in the field of archival science. The Journal will become a premiere resource for both new and seasoned professionals looking to publish cutting-edge research in the field of archives and Information sciences. NEA’s Education Committee is looking for a 2 new members to serve a three-year term from Summer 2014 to Summer 2017.

It is an exciting time to be a member of the Education Committee - we are growing our program to be able to offer diverse and cutting edge workshops throughout New England. Responsibilities include choosing workshop topics, hiring instructors, managing workshop budgets, advertising, developing specialized skill level workshops and working with allied organizations to develop co-sponsorships.

Some travel is necessary but expenses are reimbursed. It’s a great way to build your resume.

Please contact Jim DaMico, Education Committee Co-Chair with a resume and a letter of interest by May 31, 2014.

The new leaders of the Roundtable for Early Professionals and Students (REPS) have developed a survey with the goal of gaining a general awareness of our member base, gathering feedback on what's worked, and finding out what members hope to get out of REPS over the next two years. If you have any interest in getting involved with REPS but are not yet a member, we welcome your response to the survey as well (and by all means, please join!).

The survey should only take a few minutes of your time; however, we know that your time is valuable. To acknowledge this, we are offering a token of appreciation by holding a raffle among respondents. Whoever wins the raffle will receive a $20 gift card to Starbucks, because let's face it -- archivists are notorious caffeine addicts.
